What are different types of Solar Street Lights?
Depending on application, required backup, height of installation, there can be many types of solar streetlights. Broadly there are two types of solar lights.

  1. Conventional solar street light: These types of street lights are straight forward having external battery in a box works automatically dusk to dawn may indicate different status through multicolor LED.
  2. Smart solar street lights: These lights are designed to spend stored energy wisely and keeps the customer well informed about the status of light. Mostly available with lithium battery and having motion sensors. Other features like status of light are indicated through Green, Red LED. Also, some advance feature like updating health status through Bluetooth or through internet connection. Types of Smart Lights: Semi-integrated & All-in-One.

Solar High-Mast: These lights are mostly designed for area requires high brightness, full night.

What are the different components of Solar Street Light?
1. LED Luminary: Provides energy-efficient lighting.
2. Lithium-Ion Battery: Stores energy generated by the solar panel.
3. Motion Sensor: Enhances energy savings by adjusting brightness based on movement.
4. Solar Charge Controller: Regulates the charging and discharging of the battery.
5. Solar Panels: Capture sunlight and convert it into electricity.

Semi-Integrated Solar Street Light (ISSL)

SEMI-INTEGRATED SOLAR STREET LIGHTS
Semi-integrated solar street lights are available in a variety of wattages including 9W, 12W, 15W, 18W, 20W, 25W, 30W, 35W, 40W, 45W, and 50W, with different configurations for programming, motion sensors, batteries, and solar panels. They offer a highly efficient and sustainable solution for outdoor lighting needs.

CONSTRUCTION
Semi-integrated solar street lights combine the LED, driver, battery, charger, and motion sensor, all housed in a robust aluminium-alloy pressure die-cast (PDC) enclosure. This casing is IP65-rated, ensuring protection against water and dust, making it ideal for outdoor use. The solar panel is mounted facing south on the provided structure to ensure optimal exposure to sunlight, regardless of the luminary’s direction, thereby maximizing energy generation.

MAIN COMPONENTS OF SEMI-INTEGRATED SOLAR STREET LIGHTS
LEDs: High-lumen multi-LEDs (1W each) from renowned brands such as Philips or Osram are used to ensure maximum brightness and efficiency.
LED DRIVER: A boost-type LED driver ensures stable voltage and current to the LEDs for consistent performance.
BATTERY: These lights are powered by either Lithium Ferro Phosphate (LiFePO4) or Lithium-ion batteries, which are charged during the day and supply power at night.
BATTERY CHARGER: A PWM or MPPT charger safely charges the battery and prevents reverse current flow from the panel.
PIR MOTION SENSOR: Equipped with a Panasonic PIR motion sensor with a 12m range, these lights intelligently adjust brightness to conserve battery life based on surrounding activity.
SOLAR PANEL: The panel generates energy from sunlight to charge the battery, with placement optimized for maximum sunlight exposure.

PERFORMANCE
Semi-integrated solar street lights outperform integrated (All-in-One) solar lights and traditional solar street lights in terms of efficiency, battery management, and longevity. The separation of the solar panel and luminary provides flexibility and ensures better energy harvesting.

PHYSICAL PROTECTION
Compared to other types of solar street lights, semi-integrated models offer enhanced security against battery theft. The battery is safely housed inside the luminary, reducing vulnerability.

MAINTENANCE AND RETROFITTING
Maintaining and retrofitting semi-integrated solar street lights is easier than with integrated or conventional models. The modular design allows for quick component replacement, making it a practical option for long-term use.

PRICE COMPARISON
Semi-integrated solar street lights offer excellent value for money. Their design requires a smaller battery and solar panel, reducing the overall cost without compromising performance. Since no external battery box is needed, this design also saves on installation costs and material.

WORKING OF SEMI-INTEGRATED SOLAR STREET LIGHTS
The operation of semi-integrated solar street lights is simple and efficient. During the day, the solar panel absorbs sunlight and converts it into electrical energy, which is stored in the battery. As dusk falls and the energy drops below a preset threshold, the microcontroller automatically switches on the LED. The brightness is regulated through factory-set programming, with the option of PIR motion sensor integration for additional energy savings. Special multi-step programming can also be configured upon request.
